Year 3 and 4 have had a brilliant day at the Hands On History Museum in Hull as part of their Thematic Unit on the Ancient Egyptians. First, they looked at the exhibitions, including an actual Mummy. They investigated historical artefacts, thinking about what it would be like to be an archaeologist. After lunch, some volunteers were wrapped up as mummies with fake organs being used to demonstrate how bodies of Pharaohs would have been prepared for the after life. They even had chance to make papyrus and then write in hieroglyphs. It was a wonderful experience for them. We are so lucky to be near the city centre and the excellent museums quarter. Staff at the museum made the following comments: "Really great group of kids who were a pleasure to teach. They came to our museum and were so well behaved and engaged. Great teaching and support staff too!" Sally Toon, Heritage Learning.
