Year 6 Visit London

As part of another brilliant Hull & East Yorkshire Children's University (HEY CU) activity, our year 6 class spent a soggy but totally enjoyable day in the capital city. It was a very early start with pupils, parents and staff congregating in Hull Paragon Station at 5.30am to catch the first train of the day to London. When they arrived at Kings Cross Station, they then boarded an underground train to Westminster. There is nowhere more central to the governance of the country than the Houses of Parliament. Pupils undertook workshops on how laws are created and passed and had a tour of key areas of the Palace of Westminster. They walked to Buckingham Palace to see if the Queen was in; had a glance through the gates on Downing Street to see if Boris Johnson was in; and visited Horse Guards Parade to have a photo or two with the Blues and Royals. There was even a special parade on Horse Guards today. The day came to a conclusion with a visit to the 4D theatre experience and a river trip, in which the guide told the pupils all about the history of the city. Everyone made their way back to Kings Cross for the journey home. Tired but happy pupils were met by parents at 9.30pm. It was a very long day but one of the best at the same time.
