Year 6 Tree Planting part 1

For the ninth row in succession, David Longthorne popped into our year 6 this afternoon to talk about trees. On Friday, our pupils will be helping him plant some trees along the banks of Barmston Drain. This is a man-made feature that was originally dug to drain farmland. Seen as a 'green corridor' for wildlife from the city centre back into the countryside, this is a very important avenue. This is a 2018 gold award-winning project that has seen Stepney pupils helping the city. Indeed, we are the only school to have stayed the distance with this. We are immensley grateful to David for inspiring us and leading us in this campaign. He spent an hour with us, telling us about tree planting, seed dispersal and how to count the rings on a tree.
