Hull City Council Holiday Activity and Food Summer 2021

We have been asked to send you this:

"Hello, I wanted to take the opportunity to contact you and introduce myself. I am one of the Locality Programme Coordinators working on the Holiday Activity and Food Programme and I will be covering the West of the City and the wards within that, which your school falls into.

The Holiday Activity and Food Programme provides free holiday provision, including healthy food and enriching activities.

School holidays can be particular pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from disadvantaged families, are less likely to access organised out-of-school activities, more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health and more likely to experience social isolation

The free holiday activities are a response to this issue and evidence suggests that they can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best when they: provide consistent and easily accessible enrichment activities, cover more than just breakfast or lunch, involve children (and parents) in food preparation.

This holiday provision is for children who receive benefits-related free school meals. However activities are open to all, so through our mapping and working with local organisations we have been able to put activities in areas where we know there is a high percentage of children on free school meals.

All the activities and all the information for the summer will be on the website so we are directing everyone to one place to find out what is happening near them during the summer. Here’s the link to the website: Healthy Holidays Hull

Many Thanks

Kerry Allan
