Celebrating Black History Month in our Famous Brit of the Week Assemblies

This week's Famous Brits Assemblies was about Mary Seacole, who was a British-Jamaican nurse, healer and businesswoman. Mary set up the "British Hotel" behind the lines during the Crimean War, which she described as "a mess-table and comfortable quarters for sick and convalescent officers", and nursed many of them back to health. Mary is not the only Famous Black British person we have looked at in our assemblies. We are proud of the diverse range of backgrounds and heritages that our Famous Brits assemblies cover.
