Congratulations!!!
Fantastic work, Miss Baitson!
We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Stepney Primary School have been successful in meeting the requirements for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
We reviewed your application and noted the following:
Well done for creating such a large Eco-Committee! Pupils in your school are clearly very passionate about environmental issues and willing to go above and beyond to create positive impacts in their local community and beyond. If possible, we’d recommend enlisting another colleague to bolster your Eco-Committee. This will further raise the profile of your Eco-Schools work and underscore the significance your school attaches to environmental action.
Thank you for sharing your meeting minutes with the Eco-Schools’ Team. They really helped to provide an insight into your Eco-Schools’ work, and the dynamics of your pupil-led Eco-Committee!
Your Action Plan is varied and substantial, containing impactful activities for each of your 3 chosen Eco-Schools’ topics. It’s clear that when deciding on an Action Plan your Eco-Committee carefully considered how they could actively engage their entire school community in their Eco-Schools’ projects, this is a real strength of your application!
Monitoring and Evaluation can be one of the more difficult steps of the Eco-Schools’ framework, your Eco-Committee predicted this and proactively developed ways to monitor their projects from an early stage. The curriculum link examples provided are demonstrative of a whole-school commitment to incorporating important environmental issues into your learning.
They are fantastic examples of environmental education, and we were eager to learn more! Your trip to Spurn Point sounds like a fantastic experience. Your school has truly gone above and beyond to make environmental education engaging for young people. You have skilfully embedded environmental issues into your curriculum, using these issues to engage pupils and enrich their learning.
Your Eco-Committee have placed a lot of emphasis on informing as many members of your school community as possible about their Eco-Schools work, including through your school website and feeding back to classes.
We praise your Eco-Committee for their wonderful efforts to keep their school updated about their Eco-Schools’ work. Delivering an assembly about their work will have taken a lot of courage, so especially well done for doing so! Well done on collaborating with Thrive Trust for a bigger project, this collaborative approach is crucial in addressing climate change.
Without doubt the ability to engage other members of your community in your Eco-Schools’ work is one of your biggest strengths. You’re clearly right at the heart of an environmental movement in your local area. It was inspiring to learn that your Eco-Committee actively promoted sustainable living within their local community by sharing challenges with pupil’s families. This is a fantastic way to build on their in-school activities! Your online Eco-Schools noticeboard looks fantastic, with lots of data demonstrating the positive impacts you and your Eco-Committee have created.
The greatest success of your Eco-Schools’ journey was creating a brilliant outdoor learning space that all students can share responsibility for and we agree that this is something to be very proud of. You encountered various challenges during your Eco-Schools’ journey including managing poor weather when trying to complete outdoor work. However, with flexibility and tenacity you and your Eco-Committee skilfully navigated these obstacles!
Your chosen Eco-Code is practical and positive, a great reflection of your Eco-Schools work and the ethos your Eco-Committee have created at Stepney Primary School. Your application has been an absolute delight to assess. You’ve made an incredible impact in your school and local community and serve as inspiration to all.
Congratulations on earning the Eco-Schools’ Green Flag with Distinction!
