Mrs Denholm & the School Centenary

We have recently informed you about the sad loss of Lorna Denholm, a previous head teacher at Stepney. in 1986, Mrs Denholm led the celebrations as the school turned 100 years old. Completed in 1886, the first pupils started in May 1887. Fast forward to 1986 and it was a good excuse for a party and a big cake. This week, one of our parents told Mr Browning about his days at Stepney at the same time as these centenary celebrations. The children had their meals in a separate building, which was on the site of the present day Fenchurch Children Centre Car Park. The nursery part of the school was located further down Stepney Lane (a brick pillar is the only visible reminder that this building was there). Here are some old photographs from the centenary celebrations.
